Vice President JD Vance is urging Republicans to take a closer look at why socialism is gaining support among some young Americans rather than blaming younger voters for their political views.
Speaking Thursday on The Will Cain Show, Vance argued that Republicans should recognize the economic frustrations driving some young people toward ideas associated with the political left.
Vance said Republicans should not simply criticize young Americans who are sympathetic to socialism. Instead, he argued that the party needs to examine whether it has done enough to address the challenges facing younger generations.
“If we don't get this right, don't blame young people for being sympathetic to socialism. We've got to blame ourselves,” Vance said during the interview.
Economic frustrations behind the shift
Vance's comments come amid an ongoing debate over why some younger Americans are increasingly attracted to socialist or progressive economic policies.
For many young adults, issues such as housing costs, wages, student debt and the difficulty of achieving financial security have fueled frustration with the traditional political establishment.
